Experimental studying of electro-vortex flow (EVF) in the flat layer of conducting fluid with AC current.
The proposed project is devoted to experimental studying of electro-vortex flow (EVF) in the flat layer of conducting
fluid with AC current. The flat layer of conducting fluid is placed in the rectangular channel, which width is 1 m.
and length is 0.1 m. There's an AC in that channel and that channel is placed into the variable clearance between two
ferromagnetic plates. The clearance width is different along the channel. If there are the horizontal plates, we have
a symmetric and four-vortex flow. If there are inclined plates, we have the two asymmetric pairs of vortex. As a result
there's a pressure difference. If there's an AC in the channel, it's another reason for pressure difference, known as
skin layer. It means that AC lines are displaced in the area of maximum magnetic field. That area placed where the
width between the ferromagnetic plates is minimum. The result of AC lines displacement is electromagnetic forces along
the channel and pressure difference. The purpose of the work is experimental studying of the EVF, the pressure difference,
the comparison of the results of two pressure difference reasons.( From: Kolesnechenko Ilya, Pepelyaev Igor. All-Russian Math Modeling conference. Article:”Experimental investigation of electro-vortex flow in the flat layer of conducting fluid with AC current.”
In this experiment we measure a temperature with the help of T-thermocouples and NI-DAQ plate NI9211. NI9211 send the data to the PC. To get the data and control we use La20USBm1 program. (developed by me)
Pacific Power source is controlled by Labview program via RS232 without any drivers.
We measure the pressure difference with the help of pressure sensor Metran dd. The accuracy is three Pascal. The output
signal is 4 – 20 mA. Then the current goes via 400Om resistor and we measure the voltage (1.6 -8V). To measure the voltage
we use DAQ plate La20USB. La20USB and NI9211 are connected to PC via USB interface
Also we control our Pacific Power Source 360-ASX by labview via RS232(There’s no drivers for it – so I use VISA technology)
As software we use La20USMm1 DAQ program. With the help of this program we can adapt and control our plates and Pacific
Power Source 360-ASX(via RS232 without any drivers with the help of VISA technology) , get and see all the data and write
them to the file.
